Meta tags can be found in the <head> element of a web page.
If you placed it within the <body> o this page,
Some browsers may not recognize them.
Or you’re essentially creating invalid markup

Meta Description

<meta name=”description” content=”Description about your product”/>

The content will appear at search engine result pages.
It gives search engines a short description about the web page.
This tag before used to have a lot more ranking power.
( Because Algorithm updates have decrease or diminished its effect.)

But It is still be useful.
Because words that match the user’s search query are highlighted in bold.

if you have an empty description or if you haven’t used the meta description tag?
Search engines will still display a short text in the SERPs, but they create one themselves.

Meta Robots

<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow” />

The meta robots tag is used to manage the accessibility of a single web page for search engines.
You can allow or disallow search engines to index the page, follow its links or archive it.

Why is this tag useful for SEO?
First of all it’s a simple way to prevent the indexation of duplicate content,
for example the print version of a page.

Title

<title>Title of the page</title>

Actually, It’s not a meta tag but it’s usually putting at same place.

A good title should include keywords.
You had better to use these keywords in the beginning of the title

Another thing that you should keep in mind is the length.
Google will limit titles to 70 characters.
(if you over 70 words,you may have to rewrite it to make it fit.)

Meta Content Type (charset)

<meta http-equiv='Content-Type' content='Type=text/html; charset=utf-8'>

The meta content type tag is used to declare the character encoding of a website.

Charset version.
<meta charset="utf-8" />

Meta Keywords

<meta name=”keywords” content=”meta tags,search engine optimization” />

In the meta keywords tag you can store a couple of keywords about the content of the page.
However, it won’t improve your ranking.

Meta Language

<meta http-equiv="content-language" content="fr" />
This tag was formerly used to declare the language of a web page.

Today Chrome(Google) has said “I don’t care this”
Because Bing(Yahoo) which is seem it as a garbage message
If you tag more ,it would spend lot of time at loading
If you tag more ,Bing would remember and judge this web is illegal web.

Three meta tags you could concern:

  1. the meta description tag
  2. the meta robots tag
  3. the title

Maybe you can try the other meta tags:

  1. language tag
  2. content tag
  3. refresh tag
  4. nontranslate tag
